James (Jim) Patterson

August 24, 1947 — November 23, 2017

James “Jim” Patterson, 70, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday, November 23, 2017.  He was born in Michigan and has lived in Bradley County since 1995.  He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran.  He was lifetime member of the D.A.V. and the V.V.A. He was strong in his faith and was a member of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church.  He was known as a hardworker; loved fishing, cooking, shooting guns and most of all his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Emma Scott Patterson; sisters, Gladys Marie Sorrell, Mae Stone and Mary Patterson and brother, Joseph Patterson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Vicky Patterson of Cleveland; two children, James Patterson, Jr. “Jimbo” and wife, Nikki of Benton, and Christy Spurgeon, of Bradley County; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Spurgeon, Joel Patterson, Gabriel “Gabe” Spurgeon, Noah Spurgeon and Jacob Patterson; siblings, Beverly Kneeves (Danny) of Concord, GA, John Patterson (Belen) of Fort Worth, TX, Debbie Patterson of Ypsilanti, MI, Sandra Patterson of Detroit, MI and Jack G. Patterson (Karen) of Akron, OH; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00, noon on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Brother Jack Patterson and Brother Christopher Watson officiating.  Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00, noon on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
