Jerry Eugene Stevenson

October 1, 1932 — March 29, 2018

Jerry Eugene Stevenson was born on October 1, 1932 in Greensburg, Kansas. Jerry accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior after his first child was born in 1955 and met his Savior face to face on Thursday, March 29, 2018. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland where his service and generosity has touched many lives.

He attended school in several cities in Kansas and high school in Portland, TN. and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Cookeville as an Electrical Engineer in June 1954.

Jerry married Lou Isabel Hodge on July 11, 1954 in Lebanon, TN. They lived in New York for a summer and moved to St. Charles, MO where their first 2 children were born. There Jerry worked for McDonald Douglas as an aircraft test engineer. He was hired by TVA in 1958 where his first location was Cleveland, TN. 2 more children were added to his family in Cleveland.

Over his career with TVA, he lived in Chattanooga twice, Mayfield, KY, Scottsboro, AL and returned to Cleveland, TN were he retired in 1988. He worked in switchyards, at nuclear plants and in area offices retiring as a manager. At each location, the family joined a Baptist Church were Jerry assisted in several capacities from teaching classes to running computer power points for music.

After his retirement, he learned to use a computer, assisted Lou with her ceramic business in their home, traveled widely, helped organize the building of handicapped ramps for seniors, taught computer use at the Cleveland Senior Center and played music for senior dances.

During his time here on earth, he enjoyed life in many ways. He traveled to all 50 states and several other countries. There are many places he didn’t get a chance to visit like Normandy, the 911 Memorial in New York, and the WWII monument in Washington, DC.

Jerry loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, frog gigging, visiting state and national parks, fall colors, sight-seeing and waterfalls. He also liked ballroom dancing, playing card games and photographing everything. He loved to feed the fish in his pond and the deer and turkeys that frequently stopped by for the snacks he put out for them. After Lou went home in 2008 he gained 2 special dance friends in Reba Caylor and Girleen Howard. 

Mr. Stevenson was the son of the late Chester Harold Stevenson and Dorothy Laney Green; and was the brother of the late Ron Stevenson.

He is survived by and will be missed by his children;

Cynthia Lou Byrd and husband Michael of Paducah, KY., Michael Eugene Stevenson and wife Janelle of Hampton, GA., Rebecca Lea Guhne Stevenson of Cleveland, TN. and Kenneth Alan Stevenson and wife Jana of Murfreesboro, TN.; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters-in-law, Linda Stevenson, Frances Williams and Betty Wright. He will be missed by so many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Wickes and Reverend Tom Moncrief officiating.  Interment will be held at the Pine Haven Cemetery in Scottsboro, Alabama at 4:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
